Sharing The Summer Day… With Kamalei
Well you can probably guess
that it is time for another summer internship at the gallery!
We welcome Kamalei from Kamehameha Schools
to the Randy Jay Braun Gallery
for his senior year internship in visual arts.
He is very helpful and courteous…a little shy,
but Rachael is working on that!
So far Kamalei has learned many new things about working in the retail gallery business,
including customer service, hospitality,
and how we package and sell Randy’s photographs!
After working up an appetite, I introduced him to my
favorite place for lunch in town!
The Makawao Garden Cafe is the place!
He tried the baby brie and bacon sandwich and I got the usual
snow crab and avocado sandwich!
With their fresh mango smoothies,
Kamalei was convinced that this was a much better place
to eat lunch than the everyday fast food like Mc Donalds!
Back to framing,
matting, stamping…
our signature gallery packaging!
I give him pop quizes all the just to keep him alert
as his schedule is filled with sports and of course
the distractions of SUMMER!
He is so tall, he can do things for me that
I would normally need the ladder for!
Oh to be a senior in high school was a great thing!
I am so happy that I had a few influential people in my life
that year who really encouraged me
with positive direction and advice
to help me get to where I am in life!
And now I get to return that to my intern Kamalei!
So if he ever becomes famous, I know he will remember me
and the impact I had on his life during his high school career.
The Hawaiian Word Of The Day Is: Kama lei
(pronounced kah-mah lay)
