North Shore Thunder #825
I made this image at Shark's Cove, near Waimea Bay, O'ahu. There was a huge wind storm with high surf, and my boat back to Maui had been cancelled. When I view this, I am humbly reminded of the my relative insignificance in this powerful natural world around me. In Black & White, the awesome power of the wave is further revealed.

Together At Sunset #803
Maluaka Beach at the Maui Prince Resort
Palms trees sway gently in the soft evening wind as the sun sets slowly behind Kaho'olawe. A couple casually strolls the sands of Maluaka Beach in Makena, Maui. Return to paradise over and over again with this stunning romantic image.

This is the magical hour at Seven "Sacred" Pools, 'Oheo Gulch, Kipahulu, Maui.

Peace In 'Iao #807
'Iao Valley, Maui, is a place of tranquility and rejuvination. 'Iao is one of the most sacred places in all of the Hawaiian Islands. It was designated as an ali'i burial ground by High Chief Kaka'e, who ruled Maui in the 15th century. In 1736 the last worthy ali'i to be laid to rest in secret caves in 'Iao was Kekaulike, the ruler of Maui and father of Kahekilinui Ahumanu II. This entire area of Na Wai Eha (the four waters) was kapu to the maka'ainana (commoners) except during the Makahiki season (October through December).

Kula, Maui is the best of all worlds -- perfect climate, great coastal and ocean views, and year-round sunsets. This stunning image was captured after a spring rain near Rice Park.

Beach Chairs #516 Po'olenalena Beach, Makena, Maui, is one of the few beaches that has been left un-changed through the years. It is clean, peaceful, and thankfully a bit hard to find. I love this beach! In the cove on the right, a couple of beach chairs were left empty as perfect props for this sunset image.

Maluaka Glow #809
I ran to the rocky coast at Maluaka Point just in time to set up my tripod and capture one of the most brilliant images I have ever witnessed.

'Ohu Kolo - Creeping Mist at Olowalu, Maui #830
Rainbows on Maui are sometimes so plentiful that local residents forget to notice them. I caught this image from the end of the old Olowalu pier.

Where Coconuts Grow #815
Wai'anapanapa State Park, near Hana, Maui is where one of the famous black sand beaches are to visit in Hana, Maui. It is also a great place to set up camp to get away and clear your mind. Many coconut trees layer this dense tropical landscape like these.

Makena Romance #517
Big Beach at Makena is one of Hawai'i's most romantic sunset locations.

The Waters Of Venus Pool #522
Out past Hana there is a special place that some folks call "Venus Pool". The color of the water ranges from green to red to deep blue, depending on your frame of mind at the moment. Venus Pool, at Pohakuloa, is a secret place mostly reserved fo Hawaiians and "Hawaiians at heart". If you are the friendly type, a local may lead you there.

"Heavenly Hamoa" #520
Earnest Hemmingway called this the "perfect beach". I have to agree with Earnest. This photo is a digital, taken from the rocky North end. One hundred yards of golden sand lures guests from around the globe. There is a feeling of "old Hawai'i" here, as the beach-boy oversees his visitors.
|
Secluded Cove #823
Wow, is this a romantic spot! It is hidden, quiet, and one of Maui's treasures.

The Old Salt Barn #817
This old salt barn is still standing at Ka'ono'ulu Ranch in Kula, Maui. I was able to capture this rustic sunset image using the latest gear and different techniques than usual. I love the finished end result...it is a work of art!

"Nature's Canvas" #532
On the long and winding road to Hana, Maui, there are a variety of exotic plants , flowers, and trees. One of my favorite trees is the "painted" rainbow Eucalyptus. The morning sun was hitting this tree trunk, while a thick branch passed in front. Each piece of peeling bark reveals a new vivid hue.

Hawaiian Plantation Home #525
I drive past this home often. I always find myself glancing at it as it takes me on an imaginary journey into the simpler days. Even today, I crave to enjoy a home like this one.

"New Day" #523
Haleakala Crater, in Haleakala National Park. The scene changes minute by minute in the crater -- from desert inferno to snow-showers to the perfect day... Hikers must be prepared for anything!

"Stream Of Tranquility, Seven Pools " #524
This image was created at dusk at the famous "Seven Pools" of 'Oheo Gulch in Kipahulu, Maui. I used a long exposure; perhaps 30 seconds. I love the intensely green ferns hidden under the lava ledge. If I had photographed this scene during the daylight, the ferns would be hidden in shadow, and the water would look too harsh and crisp for my own taste.
